The Bell Rock
The Bell Rock lighthouse is situated 12 miles off the coast from my hometown of Arbroath. One of the most elegant and infamous lighthouses in the world, this 28-meter-high tower is perched seemingly precariously upon a treacherous rock which stretches for hundreds of meters just below the water's surface at high tide. The site of innumerable shipwrecks over the centuries before it was built in 1811 by Robert Stevenson, its white warning beam flashes every 5 seconds and can be seen for up to 18 nautical miles.
This highly atmospheric hand-made print shows the light beaming out in sharp contrast against the darkest of still nights, the lights of Dundee, Carnoustie and Arbroath twinkling and beckoning to the north. It's one of my personal favourites and comes from a very limited edition of just 40 signed and numbered prints.
